Small Projects That Can Go A Long Way

by Jeff Ronhaar

Once you've got your landscape drawings in hand, you can now start to prioritize your smaller projects and choose what you'd like to take on first.

It’s often been said that the front yard is for the neighbours to enjoy and the backyard is for the family to love. You'll want to start thinking about what matters most to you.

If you and your kids are spending a lot of time at home on the evenings and weekends, it's nice to have a backyard space where you can hang out, swing in a hammock, or play some outdoor games. On the other hand, if you're thinking of moving in a few years, you might want to focus on curb appeal to improve that first impression that your home makes. Either way, a few simple changes can a significant amount of value and enjoyment to your outdoor space.

There are so many places you can begin. Here are a few simple suggestions:

• A small patio area
• A flagstone pathway
• Planter boxes
• A small water feature
• A privacy hedge or a shade tree

Some of these things you may be able to do yourself, for other, like patios and water features, it's usually best to bring in the pros. Either way, adding a few high-value features is a great way to get started. While you live in the home, you get to enjoy your new spaces. When you decide to sell, you'll have increased your property value.

Jeff Ronhaar, Head Coach at Jeff's Outdoor

Jeff's Outdoor began when an enterprising 14-year-old decided to turn paper route customers into lawncare customers. Jeff started with one mower and never looked back.

Jeff grew up always wanting his own way. He claims he rarely got it. That's debatable. He did get plenty of lessons about hard work, determination, and, above all, treating people right.
